Mandhira Kapur Smith has broken her silence on the ongoing inheritance battle over her late brother Sunjay Kapur’s estate, calling it “sad” that his children with Karisma Kapoor, Samaira (20) and Kiaan (15), have been dragged into the dispute.Speaking from the UK, where she is currently with her mother Rani Surinder Kapur, Mandhira told Hindustan Times that the family has been unable to properly grieve Sunjay’s loss because of the courtroom tussle. “It’s been horrible. It’s like I keep saying, it’s a nightmare we want to wake up from, and we’re not being allowed to even grieve,” she said.

‘Children cut off from will’

Mandhira expressed disbelief that her brother’s children had allegedly been excluded from his will. “We’ve not been allowed to grieve since this (Sunjay’s death) has happened, and it’s been a constant shock every day. My mother did not want to take this to court, and we still hope that Priya would come forward and give us what we are asking for. It’s been unfortunate that his children have been cut off from his will,” she said. She added, “We’ve always had good relationships with Karisma and her kids. If anyone knew my brother and his relationship with his children, this is the most bizarre thing that has come out — that they’ve been cut off and Priya is the sole beneficiary of this will.”

Court proceedings continue

Her remarks came as the Delhi High Court heard the case on Wednesday, with Samaira and Kiaan challenging the will presented by Sunjay’s widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur. Priya’s legal team argued that the suit was not maintainable since the children had already received Rs 1,900 crore from the Rani Kapur Trust days before initiating legal action.Justice Jyoti Singh directed Priya to disclose all movable and immovable assets belonging to Sunjay as of the date of his death, and listed the matter for further hearing on October 9.
